Privacy Notice

At 1st Advantage Federal Credit Union, our top priority is protecting our member's privacy. We value the trust you place in us, not only to deliver the best products and services at the best rates we can offer, but also to keep your personal finances and other information confidential. 1st Advantage FCU will not provide, sell, or share your nonpublic personal financial information to any non-affiliated third party for independent use. We share member information only in one of the following circumstances:

  • You authorize it
  • You have requested a transaction or service requiring it
  • We are reporting your information to a credit reporting agency.
  • We are required or permitted by law to disclose such information.
  • If you terminate your membership with 1st Advantage FCU, we will not share nonpublic personal financial information we have collected about you except as permitted or required by law.

Information We Collect

We collect nonpublic personal financial information about you from the following sources:

  • Information we receive from membership applications, loan applications and other forms
  • Information from transactions with us or others
  • Information from a consumer reporting agency
  • Information obtained when verifying the information provided on an application or other forms, such as from current or past employers; or other institutions where your financial transactions are conducted
  • Information from specialized firms that obtain demographic and household information (we only collect this information for internal use and do not disclose it to anyone).

By law, financial institutions are permitted to share customer information with outside companies and other third parties only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers - 1st Advantage FCU may use outside companies or suppliers to perform services for us, such as check orders, printing, preparing and mailing statements. We may also use outside companies to perform research, or to assist us in marketing our own products and services. We may provide these companies with member contact information, such as name, address, and telephone number.
  • Joint Marketers - In order to offer our members' products such as additional life insurance and various investment vehicles, which would otherwise not be available through the Credit Union, we have entered into a joint marketing agreement with Member Financial Services (CUNA Mutual), Member Advantage Mortgage, and CUSO Financial Services (Advantage Financial). Joint Marketing Agreements are permitted under the Financial Services Modernization Act, and our contract with Member Financial Services (CUNA Mutual) includes the required stipulations as to the safeguarding of our member's personal financial information. We require them to keep our member's information confidential, and use it only as authorized by us. Generally we provide them with member contact information only, such as name and address. We do not permit Member Financial Services to share, sell or disclose our members' personal information to other third parties.
  • Non-Financial Companies - 1st Advantage FCU does not share your nonpublic personal financial information with non-affiliated third-party marketers under any circumstances. If you receive an offer from a non-affiliated third-party marketer about a non-financial product, they did not receive your nonpublic personal financial information from us.
  • Other Circumstances - In certain other circumstances, we are required to disclose information, including nonpublic personal financial information, in order to prevent potential fraud or criminal activity; to the credit union attorneys, accountants, and auditors; to and from consumer reporting agencies; or to comply with applicable legal requirements.

How We Protect Your Information

We restrict access to nonpublic personal financial information about you to those employees who have a specific business purpose in utilizing your data. Our employees are trained in the importance of maintaining confidentiality and member privacy. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations and leading industry practices to safeguard your nonpublic personal information.

What Members Can Do To Help

Members can help protect their privacy by following these simple guidelines:

  • Protect your account numbers, PINs, and passwords
  • Use caution when disclosing your account numbers, social security numbers, to other persons
  • Keep your information with the credit union current so we can reach you if we detect potential problems.
  • On Our Web Site

    Our servers collect standard non-identifying information about our Web Page visitors. This information is viewed only in aggregate, and is not personally identifying. For example, we collect the date and time visited, IP address, city, state, and country. This information is used to compile standard statistics on site usage only.

    If the Credit Union receives personal identifying information from you via an email, this information will only be used to communicate with you and to handle your request. Please be aware that the nature of the Internet is such that email transmissions are not necessarily secure against interceptions. If communication is very sensitive or includes personal information like your credit union account number or social security number, you may want to send it by postal mail.

    All links to other internet web sites, or mention of other companies, is solely for informational purposes only, and should not be construed as an endorsement or relationship other than what is plainly stated where such connection is made.

    Child Privacy Notice

    The personal information of a child received online under the age of thirteen is not collected, stored, or disclosed by 1st Advantage Federal Credit Union in order to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. This personal information includes name, address, E-mail address, telephone number, social security number, specific identifier, or any combination of various identifying elements. If a child under the age of thirteen elects to send an e-mail or other electronic request to 1st Advantage Federal Credit Union, the credit union may respond to that E-mail or request. However, the E-mail address of the child will be deleted and no personal information will be collected, stored or disclosed.

Verified by VISA Program Change

VISA recently upgraded the Verified by VISA program and effective August 19th, members will be required to change their passwords for their VISA Debit Cards / Credit Cards to continue utilizing this security feature. If you have any questions or concerns please contact VISA at 800-443-7728.
